Frequently Asked Questions
For a clean, well-documented application, expect two to eight weeks. The timeline depends on the bank, the complexity of your ownership structure, and how quickly compliance queries are answered. Offshore and multi-layered structures sit at the longer end and can take four to twelve weeks.
Most UAE banks require the authorised signatory to attend in person at least once — typically for the account-opening interview and signature verification. Digital banks offer more of the process online, but identity verification is still required. We tell you upfront what each bank expects.
Generally: the trade licence, Memorandum of Association, shareholder and signatory passports and Emirates IDs, the UBO declaration, proof of address, and a profile of the business. Depending on the bank and activity, you may also be asked for a business plan, invoices or contracts, and evidence of source of funds.
The most common reasons are incomplete KYC, an activity or nationality the bank treats as higher-risk, low economic substance, or an unclear source of funds. Preparing the file correctly the first time — with a credible source-of-funds narrative — is the single biggest factor in approval.
Banking is the most challenging part of operating an offshore company, and compliance standards tightened further under 2025–2026 AML rules. Simple structures (a natural person owning the offshore company directly) fare far better than opaque multi-layered arrangements. JAFZA Offshore generally has the strongest banking acceptance of the offshore jurisdictions.
No firm can guarantee approval — the final decision always rests with the bank’s compliance department. What we do is materially improve your odds: choosing the right bank for your profile, preparing a complete file, and presenting your source of funds and business activity clearly.
It varies widely — from effectively zero with some digital banks to AED 50,000 or more with traditional banks. We factor minimum-balance requirements into the bank-selection advice so there are no surprises.
